As one year ends and another year begins, it's a perfect time for reflection and preparation.  In Prime Dharma Master Jeonsan's inauguration speech he did both: he reflected on the past years with a heart of gratitude and respect, and also explained the future direction of our order with clarity and hope.

His speech highlighted the admirable aspects about Won Buddhism. He emphasized that Master Sotaesan's teaching is a buddhadharma for daily life accessible to all people. To help people bring the teachings in their daily life, Master Sotaesan created fixed-term training and daily training relevant for contemporary society. Through this training, all people have the ability to renew themselves, renew the order, and renew the world. Prime Dharma Master Jeonsan reminds us how fortunate we are to have met Master Sotaesan and found this dharma. For this, we are truly the happy ones.

Prime Dharma Master Jeonsan reminds us, however, that this training is not easy. Looking back at the first 9 disciples, these disciples modeled the spirit of 'dying with no regret'. Our founding spirit is precisely this spirit of 'dying with no regret.' If we examine the world we live in right now, many obstacles are overcome because of the people who live with this spirit. This spirit is essential if we want to open up a new world. Prime Dharma Master Jeonsan reassures us that if we go out there with this spirit, there will be nothing to be afraid of.

As I end my column with the Won Buddhist newspaper I would like to thank all the readers who supported my writing and especially Rev. I am one of the happy ones, because I have parents who introduced me to Won Buddhism, spiritual mentors who guide me each and every day, and dharma friends who hold my hand along the way. As this year comes to an end I will reflect on the words of Prime Dharma Master Jeonsan and pray that we all hold hands and grow the spirit of 'dying with no regret,' so that we renew ourselves, renew the order, and renew the world.
